And not only are they re-releasing her, there will be a white skin version called Miruku (Kurumi backwards)!!!!! The white skin beauty will only be available in Japan at the Dolpa but I'm sure she'll be on sale through Yahoo Japan Auctions (and I plan to bid!)
I was in Volks USA in Torrance recently and was curious about their opinions of other doll companies, so I boldly asked!
It seems that the staff do not have any opinions about other doll companies but they have run into several sticky sitiuations about giving advice on other company dolls. One staff member stated that Volks does not offer advice about the care of any doll from another company due to the possibility that it may not be applicable to that doll. Different doll companies use different recipes, molding techniques, assembling techniques. etc. And if something a Volks employee says leads to the damage of another company's doll, then Volks would be liable.
That makes sense. I would hate to be responsible for the destruction of another doll because you weren't sure if a certain technique or tool would be appropriate.
This answer also led to question using tools from a different company on a doll. For example, one company's eye putty may work great on their doll, but on a different company's doll may leave a residue or even stain or damage the resin.
I guess one can never really know but this has made me aware of all the possible ways we could damage our dolls. From now on, I will be careful in my choice of paints, pencils, pastels, and even eye putty. Some pastels contain a bit of oil to help hold the stick together. I was told to rub some of the pastel between my fingers to feel how "oily" it is at the art store. And I will learn from what others have observed with the products they use.
Our resin angels are durable-but not entirely indestructable!
My little Mai arrived last week and I was so excited to have an MSD, and a Hui Ten Bosch Toppi no less. After taking her to sewing class and creating a stir-the poor thing was subjected to many photos and handling I decided to take her out again.
Maybe it was my worsening strep, but I met everyone at Kyoto restaurant to enjoy a meal in one of their cute tatami rooms. Well, I did not wrap her up. I just stuck her in my bag and off we went.
But the next day as I was admiring her I noticed the nick-a small peice of the paint on her lip flaked off. I feel horrible. I'm usually so careful with my dolls. But lesson learned-place your dolls in their carriers! I hope I can get it fixed-maybe at Sato or Dolpa. At least its small and no one can really notice it. But I know its there-ugh!
If you look carefully, you can see the spot:
